Frequently Asked Questions
Below is a list of the most frequently asked questions we receive about our trips.
Q: Is fishing experience required?
A: Not at all. Whether you're a seasoned angler or a complete beginner, your captain is here to help you every step of the way. We love introducing newcomers to the excitement of fishing!
Q: What’s the best time of year to go offshore fishing in South Texas?
A: Offshore fishing is great year-round here in South Texas, thanks to our mild climate and rich waters. If you're after pelagic species like Mahi Mahi, Tuna, and Billfish, the warmer months (spring through late fall) are typically the best. The cooler months offer excellent bottom fishing for Snapper and trolling for Wahoo. No matter the season, there’s always something biting offshore! Feel free to give us a call for the latest fishing report!

Q: What happens if the weather is bad?
A: Your safety is our priority. If weather conditions are unsafe, we will either reschedule your trip or offer a full refund. We always monitor the forecast closely and will stay in touch if any changes are needed.
Q: Do I need a fishing license?
A: Yes, unfortunately in the state of Texas, even when on a charter you must possess a valid Texas saltwater fishing license. You can purchase one online here:

Q: What should I bring on the fishing trip?
A: We recommend bringing sunscreen (non spray), a hat, sunglasses, comfortable clothing, and any snacks or drinks you prefer. Don’t forget your camera to capture your catches! We provide all fishing gear, bait, water, and safety equipment.
Q: Is the charter private?
A: Yes, all of our trips are private charters. That means it’s just you and your group on board—no sharing the boat with other parties. This allows us to customize the trip to your preferences and ensures you get a more personal, comfortable, and flexible fishing experience.
Q: Can I bring kids on the fishing trip?
A: Definitely! We love having families onboard and fishing is a great activity for kids of all ages. Your captain is patient and great with young anglers. For safety, we do require that children 13 and under wear life jackets at all times (which we provide). If you have any special concerns or needs, feel free to let us know in advance.

Q: What’s the best trip if I’m bringing kids?
A: Our 5-hour deep sea trip is a great option for families with kids. It’s the perfect length to keep young anglers engaged and having fun without being out too long. The waters are usually calmer closer to shore, and there’s plenty of action to keep everyone excited. The captain is also experienced with kids and loves making their first fishing trip a fun and memorable one.

Q: How far out do you go on a trip?
A: The distance we travel depends on where the best fishing is and the type of fish we're targeting. On our 5-hour trips, we usually fish 15 to 20 miles offshore. For our 8-hour trips, we typically head 30 to 50 miles out, and for extended 10+ hour trips, we may venture 50 to 65 miles offshore. Our goal is always to get you to the most productive fishing grounds for the best possible experience.

Q: Can I catch Mahi Mahi?
A: Yes, Mahi Mahi is a popular request on our deep sea trips—especially during their peak season from spring through fall. We typically target Mahi on our 8-hour and 10+ hour trips, when we have the time to reach the deeper waters where these colorful fish are often found. If you're hoping to hook into some Mahi, let us know when booking and we'll plan accordingly.
Q: Can I catch Tuna?
A: Absolutely! Tuna are one of the most exciting fish to target offshore of South Padre Island, especially during their peak seasons. We typically focus on Tuna during our 8-hour and 10+ hour trips, when we can reach the deeper offshore waters where they roam. Tuna fishing can be fast-paced and action-packed—perfect for anglers looking for a challenge.

Q: Can I catch Sailfish?
A: Yes, Sailfish are an incredible catch, known for their speed and spectacular jumps! They are generally more common off South Padre Island in the warmer months and are targeted on our longer trips—8 hours and 10+ hours—when we can head out to prime offshore spots. Let us know you're after Sailfish, and we’ll do our best to get you on them.
